Ostrów Tumski is surrounded by the Oder. The old town, the origin of the city, features fantastic architecture. The most prominent landmarks are the Gothic St. John the Baptist Cathedral, rebuilt after World War II, and the Holy Cross Church.
The Archdiocesan Museum is located there, the oldest historically continuous museum in Wroclaw. For over 100 years, it has collected sacred art that was no longer used for worship and is of significant historical and artistic value. Among the exhibits is the Henryków Book from the 13th–14th century, which contains the first sentence written in Polish.

Słodowa Island belongs to the Oder Archipelago north of Rynek. In addition to Słodowa, the other Wroclaw islands are Bielarska, Młyńska, Piasek, Daliowa, and Tamka.
The island (Wyspa Słodowa) was formerly developed, but during World War II most of the buildings were destroyed; only a six-story tenement house survived.
Throughout the year, the island is under the “rule” of the students. On summer weekends, the island offers many attractions: open-air cinema on Fridays and Saturdays, concerts on Saturdays, board games, sports activities, and, on Sundays, dance classes or an open-air library.

The University of Wrocław was founded in 1945, replacing the former German University of Breslau. Following the territorial changes to Poland’s borders, scholars from Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv (today Lviv, Ukraine) restored the university buildings, which had been severely damaged and divided during the Battle of Breslau (1945). Today, it is one of the best-known educational institutions in the region.
The university is currently the largest in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, with over 100,000 graduates since 1945, including approximately 1,900 researchers, many of whom have received the highest honors for their contributions to the advancement of science.

Aula Leopoldinum is the most representative part of the university. Its name derives from its founder, Emperor Leopold I. It was designed by the famous Italian architect Christophorus Tausch, a student of Andrea Pozza.
The interior is divided into three parts: the podium, auditorium, and musical matroneum. Known for its wonderful acoustics, Aula Leopoldinum brings academics together for important occasions and events in the life of the university.
The aula is located on the first floor of the main building.
After visiting the aula, you will enter the university tower, from where you will have a breathtaking view of the city.

Wrocław is the historic capital of Silesia and one of Poland’s largest and oldest cities. It lies on both sides of the central Silesian Lowland. Five major rivers flow through the city: the Oder and four of its tributaries, which run within the city limits: Bystrica, Oława, Ślęza and Widawa.
Despite wartime damage (70% of its buildings), Wrocław has preserved many buildings in their original form, while others were restored or rebuilt after the war. Highlights include the Gothic Town Hall on the Market Square; Gothic churches such as St. Nicholas Cathedral, St. John the Baptist’s Cathedral on Cathedral Island (with the Baroque Elector’s Chapel designed by Fischer von Erlach), Holy Cross Church and St. Mary on the Sand; the most important Baroque buildings of the University of Wrocław, including Aula Leopoldina; the Neo-Gothic railway station; the modernist Centennial Hall (designed by Max Berg); Erich Mendelsohn’s department store; and the buildings of the “Living and Working Space” exhibition (including a house designed by Hans Scharoun).

What are the dwarfs of Wrocław? Put simply, they are small bronze dwarfs, known in Polish as “Krasnal”, scattered throughout the city of Wrocław in western Poland. In general, each dwarf is about one metre tall and depicts a different activity, from withdrawing money at an ATM and eating ice cream to delivering a pizza. Think Snow White, but extremely tall.
Although the dwarfs of Wrocław are a relatively recent phenomenon, they have become a symbol of the city. To date, there are well over 300 throughout the city.
