A Journey through Warsaw's Old Town

The Old Town is not only the historic part of Warsaw. It is important to remember that until the end of the 18th century, Warsaw consisted only of the Old Town, known as Stare Miasto. The New Town, formerly known as New Warsaw, was incorporated later. Previously, these were two separate cities, each with its own coat of arms: the Old Warsaw mermaid and the New Warsaw lady with a unicorn. During our trip, among other sights, we will see the column of King Sigismund III Vasa in front of the Royal Castle, formerly the castle of the Dukes of Masovia. From there, we will travel to St. John’s Cathedral, where we will see the tombs of the Dukes of Masovia. We will visit the Museum of Warsaw, where we can admire the historic mermaid rescued before the Warsaw Uprising. We will walk through the Barbican, the former fortress that separated New Warsaw from Old Warsaw. We will see the historic bell in Kanonia Square. Finally, we will see Chopin’s heart embedded in the Church of the Holy Cross.
