What to expect

1

Hamburg City Hall

The City Hall is a unique building right in our center. An impressive facade in the Neo-Renaissance style. The building houses the parliament and the government of the federal state of Hamburg. One of the few buildings that survived the Second World War. We will take a closer look at the facade and then – if possible – go into the impressive entrance hall and the courtyard behind the City Hall. The history of the city can already be told by looking at the decoration of the facade and also the art inside the hall. Discover the humor of the citizens in this place.

Mönckebergstraße

Our tour begins at Mönckebergstraße 1. One of the first representative streets of the early 20th century. Inaugurated in 1911 after a cholera epidemic and a reorganization of the streets and commercial buildings. Today, our number 1 shopping street. Take a closer look at the facades. They are all different and represent the wealth of this (former) trading city and its merchants.

Memorial St. Nikolai

We are visiting the memorial to the victims of the Second World War. Anyone who wants to learn more about this period in Hamburg can visit the museum after the tour. The church was consecrated in 1874 and was then among the tallest church towers in the world. The church itself was destroyed, but the tower remained as a landmark. On the hour, you can hear the carillon with 36 bells, which plays a short melody.

This district, primarily composed of office buildings from 1912-1924, complements the Speicherstadt. Admire the dark brick architecture. Highly modern for its time, featuring some of Germany's largest office buildings in the early 20th century. If you book this tour on a weekday, I hope we can show you one of the earliest elevators (they never stop – you just hop on and off). The most famous building is the Chilehaus. Unique and a symbol of Brick Expressionism.
