Lublin
The Nazi German concentration and extermination camp Majdanek is located just outside the city. According to the Nazis’ plans, it was supposed to be larger than the notorious Auschwitz and become a source of slave labor for the construction of a new Reich in the East. The extremely harsh conditions in the camp are symbolized right at the entrance by an impressive monument located on the site of the former entrance gate. A walk among the remains of a camp barracks with exhibitions, a well-preserved crematorium or gas chamber, and the huge mausoleum containing the ashes of the Majdanek victims fills visitors with sorrow and reflection.

During its golden age, Lublin was a very wealthy city with aristocratic palaces, impressive sacred architecture, and bourgeois townhouses. It was called the “Vienna of the North.” Stroll through the narrow, cobbled streets of the Old Town, picturesquely situated on a hill. It almost feels as though you can breathe in its history.
