What to expect

1

Elbphilharmonie

The Elbphilharmonie (also known as 'Elphi' for short) is a concert hall in Hamburg completed in November 2016. It was planned with the goal of creating a new landmark for the city and a 'monument to culture for everyone'. The 110-meter-high building in the HafenCity district lies on the right bank of the Norderelbe at the tip of Großer Grasbrook, between the mouths of the Sandtorhafen and Grasbrookhafen harbor basins. It was built incorporating the shell of the former Kaispeicher A (built in 1963). A modern superstructure with a glass facade, reminiscent of sails, water waves, icebergs, or a quartz crystal, was placed on this base. The location at Kaiserhöft is characterized by the former industrial use of the harbor and the Neo-Gothic brick architecture of the Speicherstadt.

Hamburg City Hall

The Hamburg City Hall is the seat of the Hamburg Parliament and the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The architecturally magnificent building on the Kleine Alster was built from 1886 to 1897 in the historicist Neo-Renaissance style. The tower is 112 meters high and, alongside the towers of Hamburg's main churches, is a significant landmark in the Hamburg cityscape.

Speicherstadt

The Hamburg Speicherstadt is the world's largest historic warehouse complex, located in the Port of Hamburg. It encompasses the area between Baumwall and Oberhafen. Since 1991, it has been a listed monument and, as of July 5, 2015, it has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List under the name Speicherstadt and Kontorhausviertel with Chilehaus, along with the neighboring Kontorhausviertel and the Chilehaus.

Chile House

The Chilehaus is an office building built between 1922 and 1924 in Hamburg's Kontorhaus district. The architecture of Fritz Höger was groundbreaking for the Brick Expressionism of the 1920s, which was inspired by Brick Gothic and Expressionism. The building, with its 36,000 m² of gross floor area and up to ten stories on a footprint of 5950 m², is one of the first high-rise buildings in Hamburg. With its prow-like tip pointing east, it has become an icon of Expressionism in architecture.

Reeperbahn

Reeperbahn is the central street in the entertainment and red-light district of Hamburg's St. Pauli district. It is approximately 930 meters long and runs from Millerntor westwards to Nobistor (Hamburg-Altona), where it transitions into Königstraße. The large number of discotheques, bars, and nightclubs has earned it the nickname "the most sinful mile in the world".

6

Main Church St. Michaelis

The Protestant main church St. Michaelis (colloquially: Michel) is Hamburg's most famous church building and is considered Northern Germany's most important Baroque church. For navigation on the Elbe, the widely visible sacred building with its distinctive architecture has long been the landmark of the Hanseatic city.

7

Alster

The Alster is a 56-kilometer-long tributary of the Elbe and flows through Süd-Holstein and Hamburg. The best-known and most distinctive part of the Alster is the Alster lake, formed in Hamburg's inner-city area by the Inner Alster and Outer Alster. The buildings around the Inner Alster are often characterized by white facades and copper-covered roofs of Gründerzeit office and commercial buildings.
