What to expect
The term Berlin government district refers to the area where the most important institutions of the executive branch (the Federal Government) and the legislative branch (the German Bundestag) are headquartered. The core of the capital’s “political center” is formed in particular by the Federal Chancellery, the Reichstag Building, and the neighboring Bundestag buildings Paul-Löbe-Haus, Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus, and Jakob-Kaiser-Haus. Some of the government district’s buildings are grouped together in the so-called Band des Bundes.
Museumsinsel
Museum Island is an architectural ensemble consisting of five museums in the northern part of Spree Island in the historic center of Berlin. It is one of the German capital’s most important landmarks and one of Europe’s most significant museum complexes.
Nikolaiviertel
The Nikolaiviertel in Berlin’s Mitte district is the oldest settlement area in the capital. Almost completely destroyed during the Second World War, it was rebuilt between 1980 and 1987 by architect Günter Stahn on behalf of the East Berlin Magistrate to mark the city’s 750th anniversary. Around the reconstructed St. Nicholas Church, an ensemble of historic town houses was created on an approximately medieval ground plan.
The Mühlendamm Lock in Berlin is located in the Mitte district, east of Mühlendamm on Fischerinsel. It lies along the Spree, which here forms part of the Spree–Oder Waterway. The lock was commissioned in 1942 and overcomes a drop of 1.51 metres.
Tränenpalast
“Tränenpalast” is the colloquial name for the former departure hall of the Friedrichstraße railway station border crossing in Berlin’s Mitte district. From here, S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains ran to West Berlin, as did long-distance trains via West Berlin to the Federal Republic of Germany.
Berlin Central Station
Berlin Hauptbahnhof is the most important passenger railway station in Berlin and also the largest multi-level railway station in Europe.
Meeting and pickup
You will find our ship on the northern bank of the Spree, next to the Hotel Abion. From Moabiter Brücke, follow the riverside path for approximately 150 metres.
