BallinStadt Emigration Museum Hamburg

Embark on an exciting journey and experience the history of emigration and immigration across four eras at the BallinStadt Emigration Museum Hamburg. Across three buildings covering 2,500 sqm, our museum in Hamburg lets you follow people with all their wishes and dreams, which they took with them on their journey to a new homeland. Get to know Albert Ballin, the founder of the former emigration halls in Hamburg, and trace your ancestors' footsteps at the BallinStadt Family Research Center.
At a historic site, the BallinStadt Emigration Museum Hamburg explores emigration via Hamburg (1850-1934) and migration development across four epochs. Always accompanied by human longings, fates, and stories. The reasons for migration remain timeless to this day. Flight from war, hunger, and persecution, or simply a sense of adventure, curiosity, and the dream of a new (better) life, are drivers for emigration and thus also immigration, then as now.
