Description
The Treblinka extermination camp was built in 1942 on the orders of Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler. However, from 1940 there had been a penal camp for the Polish population in the northern part of the Warsaw District (Treblinka I), which was converted into a forced-labor camp in 1941. The death camp "Treblinka II" was established near "Treblinka I" to carry out the mass extermination of Jewish men, women, and children.

What to expect
Treblinka Memorial
The Museum of the Struggle and Martyrdom has now been established on the site of the camp. While visiting the camp in Treblinka, you can visit the exhibition dedicated to the extermination camp. A monument built in 1964 commemorates Treblinka and its victims. It resembles the Wailing Wall and is surrounded by a symbolic cemetery made of granite blocks. The names of the places where those murdered were born are inscribed on it.
The camp in Treblinka was second only to Auschwitz-Birkenau in terms of the number of victims killed in stationary gas chambers and mass executions. The Germans directed transports from ghettos in occupied Poland to the camp, including from the Warsaw Ghetto.
