Treblinka, more precisely Treblinka II, was the second-largest extermination camp after Birkenau, where German and Austrian Nazis murdered more than 800,000 Polish Jews, along with dozens of other Poles in a nearby forced-labor camp.
Treblinka differs from all other similar sites. You will see neither barracks nor crematoria here. Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto were transported there in inhumane conditions and driven directly from the railway ramp into gas chambers. Forty minutes later, the victims’ bodies were buried in huge mass graves.
