Less than 10 kilometers from the center of Warsaw stands the magnificent royal palace of King Jan III Sobieski. The origins of the palace date back to 1677, although over time it became a magnificent villa surrounded by fantastical gardens, as later owners expanded the palace.
Today, the palace is a work of art, with fantastic gardens and sculptures in the park, as well as magnificent buildings and monuments. The residence has preserved traces of its former inhabitants, their interests and customs, as well as a collection of artworks they gathered here. The museum is a place of remembrance for events that are part of Warsaw’s history. When we visit this amazing place, we can touch what is important in our tradition and what forms part of our shared European culture.
In winter, mapping shows are held on the buildings; in summer, there are concerts and interesting temporary exhibitions.

The Old Town consists of the town square, surrounded by characteristic tenement houses, and a centrally placed fountain with a sculpture of a mermaid, the city’s symbol, without which the square would be almost unimaginable. Other elements of the Old Town include Castle Square, with the Royal Castle next to it, and Sigismund’s Column. Not far from the Old Town are Piłsudski Square and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
A series of streets known as the Royal Route begins in the Old Town. The Royal Route is the city’s best-known thoroughfare and connects two former royal residences. The Old Town features numerous atmospheric cafés, restaurants and art galleries.

A magnificently beautiful Baroque-classical royal castle on Warsaw’s Castle Square. Originally, it was the residence of the Dukes of Masovia and, from the 16th century onward, the seat of the governing bodies of the First Polish Republic: the king and the Sejm (the lower and upper houses of parliament).
In the 1920s and 1930s, it was the seat of the head of state and the residence of the President of the Republic of Poland. During a visit to Warsaw’s Royal Castle, you can see, for example, the royal chambers built for King Stanisław August Poniatowski, as well as the Sejm chambers. The most outstanding are the Throne Room, decorated with red velvet and gold, the Knights’ Hall, and the Ballroom with the largest plafond in Poland.
The permanent exhibitions include the Gallery of Paintings, Prince Joseph’s apartment in the Tin-Roofed Palace, and the multimedia exhibition “The Destruction and Reconstruction of the Castle”.
