Messy Table: An Expressive Arts Workshop on Perfectionism & Control
Today, 16:45 - 19:30
What happens when we stop trying to make something good?
Messy Table is an expressive arts workshop exploring creativity, perfectionism and our relationship with control.
Facilitated by the sozo space , the workshop invites us to step away from outcome-driven thinking and pay more attention to the process of making: experimenting, responding intuitively and allowing things to remain unfinished, unexpected or imperfect.
We’ll work primarily with clay, using it as a medium for exploration. No experience or artistic skills are needed.
What do we mean by expressive arts?
Expressive arts is a process-led approach to creativity in which artistic materials can be used to explore ideas, emotions and experiences.
Rather than focusing on technical skill or producing a polished final object, the emphasis is on making and experimenting.
For Messy Table, that means using clay and guided creative exercises to explore questions around creativity, perfectionism and control and seeing what happens when the outcome becomes a little less important.
What to expect
The evening will begin with a short introduction and guest perspective on creativity, perfectionism and control, followed by a guided hands-on session facilitated by the sozo spac e.
Through a series of exercises, we’ll experiment with clay, form and process, before coming back together for a short reflection and sharing.
We’ll finish the evening with an open space for drinks, conversations and meeting each other.
No previous art experience is required.
