An exclusive wellness resort awaits a distinguished guest: the Elector has announced his arrival. Amidst the spa, garden, and relaxation areas, staff and guests are thrown into a frenzy – because where relaxation is promised, old lies, false pretenses, and secret desires suddenly surface. The nature and environmental activist Adam, his fiancée Christel, the heavily indebted Count Stanislaus, the self-assured Baroness Adelaide, and the scheming resort manager Weps become entangled in a game of disguise, deception, and false appearances. The Electress also arrives incognito – and uses the resort's stage to bring truth, love, and responsibility to light. A modern operetta about appearance and reality, about power, morality, and the surprising power of honesty – with humor, music, and a happy ending where character, not titles, counts. With its popular tunes like "Grüß euch Gott, alle miteinander" or "Schenkt man sich Rosen in Tirol," Carl Zeller created a gem of the genre with his operetta, first performed in 1891, which has since steadfastly formed a cornerstone of the classical Viennese operetta repertoire. And it pays homage less to Viennese charm or Hungarian wildness, but lovingly and hilariously satirizes small-state German provincialism.
