Date: October 1, 2026, 4-6 PMLocation: Bergedorf-Bille-Stiftung, Bergedorfer Straße 100, 21029 HamburgOrganized by: Interkulturelle Denkfabrik e.V.People from Bergedorf with a migration background share their life stories - about flight, arrival, home, and prejudice. How does it feel to grow up in a war – and years later find a new home in Hamburg? What does it mean to have to work at the age of seven instead of going to school, and to learn to read and write for the first time in your early twenties? In the workshop "Life Paths Between Continents," you will get to know two people who can answer these questions from their own experience. Kheda Yakhyaeva experienced the wars in Chechnya as a child and today supports refugees as a social counselor in Hamburg. Mulugeita Hanes fled from Eritrea through the Sahara and across the Mediterranean Sea and today works as a geriatric nurse in Bergedorf – the place he calls home.Based on excerpts from the video interviews of the documentary project "Herkommen" (Interkulturelle Denkfabrik e.V.), participants will engage in conversation with Kheda and Mulugeita: about flight and arrival, about education as an opportunity, about everyday racism and prejudice – and about the question of what home actually means. In the interactive part, participants will develop their own questions for people with a migration background. The workshop is aimed at all interested parties – no prior knowledge is necessary.Participation is free, registration is required.
