Sabine Niemann’s work explores the themes of city, harbor and landscape right up to the verge of abstraction, between Köhlbrand and the North Sea, backyard and Hagenbeck.Casual, spontaneous acrylic paintings, drawings and sketches depict people, animals and things in characteristic poses, from footballers to sloths, from lost places to inner demons. In a delightfully disorienting way, the images surprise through their loose, often humorous approach. They are all characterized by the visible traces of the gestural creative process – including marks of every kind. It is about energy and materiality, and the small glow of colors and moments. The diverse exhibition, comprising around 90 works, is being shown on the 6th floor of Block X in Speicherstadt.
