A new generation of photographic artists is now engaging experimentally and expansively with analog color photography, exploring its sensitive surfaces and activating its emotional frequencies. In this process, the darkroom becomes more than just a place of photographic production: it transforms into a space for reflection, where experiences, relationships, and memories are processed, reshaped, and made tangible while still latently visible.

The German-Turkish artist Abdulhamid Kircher (1996) explores the consequences of patriarchy and violence, as well as the search for reconciliation and closeness, in his analog photographic and installation work. He sees his work as a fragmented, living family album. In doing so, he circles the absence of the father, a void that becomes a surface for longing and projection. "Perhaps I am the one who must love him first," says Abdulhamid Kircher. The starting point for the artistic work of Akosua Viktoria Adu-Sanyah (1990) is again historical photographs from the British Empire & Commonwealth Collection in Bristol, taken in her father's birthplace in present-day Ghana. In search of alternative narratives, she detaches skies, treetops, and landscapes from their colonial context and transfers these salvaged fragments of nature onto color negatives. In a phone call, the Deichtorhallen Hamburg art education team will introduce you to the exhibitions currently on display at PHOXXI – Temporary House of Photography. Free of charge, registration required up to one day before the appointment at buchung@beianrufkultur.de or by calling 040/209 404 29.

What happens to our own creativity when we constantly see new images on social media and AI can generate them for us at any time? The free workshop invites young people to explore the influence of AI on their perception, their idea of aesthetics, and their creative work. Together with Merzmensch (cultural scientist and author of AI art) and Mona Behfeld (Deichtorhallen Hamburg), they experiment with AI tools, develop their own image ideas, and ask how creative self-determination can succeed even in the age of artificial intelligence. The workshop is aimed at young people aged 14–20 and lasts 3 hours including a break. The offer is free of charge and bookable for one (1) school class with a minimum of 10 attending students.
