The organ concert takes its theme from the well-known Latin hymn “Vexilla regis prodeunt” from the 6th century. It is sung at Vespers during Holy Week and on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. There are also numerous settings of the Gregorian melody, including settings for organ. Alongside shorter arrangements by Jeanne Demessieux and Marcel Dupré, the concert will feature Naji Hakim’s symphonic paraphrase on the hymn, in which the composer traces the dramatic character of the text. The “Vexilla regis” arrangements are framed by Johann Sebastian Bach’s weighty Fantasy and Fugue in C minor, BWV 546, and Louis Vierne’s Fourth Symphony, Op. 32. Admission is free; donations are welcome.DirectorDr. Maryam HaiawiOrganizerEv.-Luth. Haupt-Kirchengemeinde St. Trinitatis Altona
