    Singing & making music
Sing together, feel the neighborhood: EARLY NIGHT SINGING regularly transforms Fanny-Mendelssohn-Platz in Eimsbüttel into a large open-air choir – no registration, no admission, for all generations. The format, launched in 2025 as a highlight of the anniversary "750 Years Eimsbüttel" and since then attended by hundreds of participants per evening, features well-known pop and classic songs, lyrics via booklet or QR code ("Scan and Sing"), and rousing moderation. Every voice counts. Singing along is explicitly encouraged – just come along, no prior knowledge, no registration, take a booklet or scan the code, and become part of a whole square full of music, community, and good cheer. Free admission!

During the tour, we will look for traces and clues that point to National Socialism in the formerly "red" district of Eimsbüttel. Some places are connected to political, racist, or antisemitic persecution that took place in plain sight. Other places, in turn, show that National Socialism offered attractive opportunities for participation to the non-persecuted majority society, but also the possibility for personal enrichment. The stories of the resistance of the few against the Nazi dictatorship make it clear that despite threats of repression, there were indeed room for maneuver. During the war, foreign forced laborers housed in camps were also part of everyday life in Eimsbüttel. The tour ends near the Christuskirche subway station. Led by: Jonas Jakubowski
