Nature, expanse, and water: For centuries, artists have found countless sources of inspiration in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The state boasts a rich art history, shaped by artist colonies in Ahrenshoop, Schwaan, and on the island of Hiddensee, as well as by famous personalities like Caspar David Friedrich and Philipp Otto Runge. But the contemporary and vibrant art scene is also impressive. We went on a search and present eight artists from the region who engage with the subject of landscape in diverse ways – from exploring their immediate surroundings to abstract interpretations. Look forward with us to an exciting exhibition of contemporary painting from the Northeast. Opening on Thursday, May 28th at 6:30 PM. Dr. Friederike Weimer will give the introductory remarks.

Painting draws from immediate reality as well as from well-known subjects in art history. There are artistic movements that repeatedly inspire and lead to new visual ideas. The six female artists in this exhibition have also captured the uniqueness of many wonderful moments in nature. Their interest in the play of light, which transforms objects or landscapes at any time of day and in any color, is clearly evident. The interplay of light and shadow, the allure of a fleeting movement, the mood of a summer afternoon, the iridescent sheen of a water surface, and the gentle diffusion of morning mist have been captured and immortalized by them. We look forward to six inspiring interpretations.Opening on Monday, September 21st at 6:30 PM. The opening remarks will be given by Ms. Dr. Gabriele Himmelmann.Participating artists: Claudia Bormann, Katharina Ismer, Britta Hansen, Uta Masch, Vivien Thiessen, Martina Zingler
