Under the title "Places of Hope in Times of Change – Anchoring and Securing the Future," we invite you to a guided walk around these themes in Hamburg's city center. The starting point is the Rathauspassage Hamburg, from where we will explore churches and their surroundings as so-called third places: spaces that enable encounters, orientation, and community beyond faith. The tour will lead to places with great historical depth as well as to current developments in the old and inner city. It will also address the question of how church spaces and their surroundings can become anchor points for social responsibility, new uses, and urban future ideas in times of change. The guided tours contribute to the public discussion about the future of inner cities. They highlight churches and church-influenced initiatives as cultural, social, and spiritual catalysts and strengthen the role of the Rathauspassage Hamburg as an active player in this discourse. For the Night of the Churches, the Rathauspassage Hamburg transforms into a small pilgrimage with various stations. Amidst the special atmosphere of the city center, we invite you to pause, set off, and embark on a discovery. Our Rathauspassage becomes a place of encounter, inspiration, and the search for new paths. Visitors can discover culinary offerings this evening, as well as beautiful new and used pilgrimage books that invite browsing, further reflection, and taking home. A special highlight is our pilgrim's drink from the Hildegard von Bingen monastery, which uniquely rounds off the evening and makes the connection between spiritual tradition, enjoyment, and community tangible. Furthermore, you can expect other small discoveries that invite you to linger, participate, converse, and marvel. Thus, the Rathauspassage Hamburg itself becomes a small place of pilgrimage in the middle of the city this evening: open, lively, and full of small stations that appeal to body, mind, and senses. We look forward to everyone who embarks on this special journey with us. Following the motto of the Rathauspassage Hamburg: Seek the welfare of the city, Jeremiah chapter 29, verse 7.

    City Walks
The popular barge tour for the Night of the Churches is entering its second round. Following its great success in 2025, the Rathauspassage Hamburg, together with Barkassen Meyer, invites you once again to a very special evening on the water – a unique opportunity to experience the city from a new, fascinating perspective. Look forward to an approximately two-hour journey through Hamburg's nocturnal canals, when the city is bathed in warm light and the illuminated facades, bridges, and contours are impressively reflected in the water. As darkness falls, Hamburg unfolds its very own magic – calm, atmospheric, and vibrant at the same time. September often still provides pleasantly mild temperatures, making the evening enjoyable even under the open sky. The tour leads through the atmospheric waterways of the city center out into the harbor, with the destination being Baumwall or HPA. Due to this year's high tide, which will reach its peak at 6:23 PM, the tour will start a little later. Boarding is scheduled between 8:45 PM and 9:00 PM – perfect for immersing yourself directly in the special evening atmosphere. A highlight of the tour this year is again the devotion on board: a quiet, contemplative moment amidst the city glowing at night. A special atmosphere arises between the water, lights, and community, inviting you to pause and enjoy. Secure your spot in time for the Night of the Churches – fare of €28 per person – and experience Hamburg at its most beautiful – at night, in the city lights, and perhaps still in the mild warmth of a late summer evening.
