From the late 1940s, survivors commemorated the suffering experienced and the murdered people on the former grounds of the Neuengamme concentration camp. Today, a large memorial site with numerous memorial markers is located here. Over time, various actors have fought for remembrance on site – and continue to do so today. The individual and collective forms of remembering and commemorating at the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial are very diverse, yet they still contain gaps.The thematic tour provides an overview of the struggles for remembrance up to the present day and presents, alongside the Grove of Remembrance, the House of Remembrance, and the International Memorial, the "Place of Connection" established in 2020 and the "National Memorial" inaugurated in 2025.Free event for Open Monument Day.
