Łódź

Lodz is the third-largest city in Poland and was the center of Polish industry a hundred years ago. For this reason, Lodz was formerly called the Promised Land or the Polish Manchester. However, the greatest strength of this city lies in its history. During World War II, Nazi Germany annexed Lodz to the Reich and changed its name to Litzmannstadt. Shortly afterward, they established a ghetto and imprisoned over 200,000 Polish Jews. Only a few people survived. However, the district itself survived and today serves as a reminder of these tragic events. Lodz is a city of contrasts. Hidden amid a labyrinth of factories and workshops is the picturesque city center. It is the most beautiful part of the city. There are many magnificent prewar buildings with richly decorated facades. They represent a unique style that you will find neither in Warsaw nor in Krakow. It takes only an hour and a half to get from Warsaw to Lodz, and it is truly worth doing so.
