HermannshoftheaterOnce upon a time, there was a fisherman and his wife who lived together in an old hut close to the sea. They had just enough to live on, and sometimes not even that. Every day, the fisherman went out and cast his net. One day, he caught a giant flounder and rejoiced over the bounty. But the fish lamented and begged the fisherman to let him go. When the fisherman comes home, he has to listen to his wife's bitter reproaches that he let such a catch get away.She sends him back to sea, telling him to demand a beautiful house from the fish. The house soon becomes too small for her. She wants a palace, later a castle, and finally, she even wants to be king and pope. The flounder grants her everything, but when she claims to be God himself, everything collapses like a house of cards.
