Meeting point: Stephansplatz / corner of Gorch-Fock-Wall, at the sculpture “Die Liegende”Tour - Cemetery, Zoo, Garden ShowThe Planten un Blomen green space has a varied history to offer: In 1713, plague cemeteries were established here, and from 1794 Hamburg’s parish churches also moved their burial sites outside the city walls. A last relic of this era is the "St. Petri Todtencapelle" on St. Petersburger Straße. In 1863, the Zoological Garden opened, which remained on this site until the First World War. With the “Low German Garden Show” in 1935, the area was redesigned as a public green space and named Planten un Blomen. The old burial sites have been the location of the trade fair grounds since 1953.
