Chamber music between departure, passion, and inner freedom. Under the title "Les Révolutionnaires / The Revolutionaries," works by Beethoven, Fauré, and Saint-Saëns meet – music full of energy, drama, and poetic depth. At its heart is the revolutionary spirit, not just as a political event, but as an artistic force: the courage to break new ground, change forms, and make emotions immediately audible.
Beethoven's late cello sonatas open a view into a new musical freedom, in which cello and piano speak to each other as equal voices. Fauré's second cello sonata leads this search for expression into a more refined, inwardly directed sound world; its slow movement dates back to a Chant funéraire that Fauré wrote for the centenary of Napoleon's death. Saint-Saëns' first cello sonata combines classical clarity with passionate drama and romantic departure. This creates an evening of music between remembrance and renewal, between French elegance and Beethovenian radicalism – vibrant chamber music about freedom, passion, and the power of new beginnings.
