Description

The monsun.theater in Hamburg-Altona sees itself as a place of encounter and exchange. It is known for its diverse program, which includes contemporary theater, music and dance theater, as well as children's and youth productions. As the city's oldest off-theater, it offers space for innovative, cross-genre projects and creates a place where emerging talents and established artists can unfold their artistic skills equally. With its commitment to creative diversity and intercultural collaboration, the monsun.theater shapes Hamburg's independent scene as a production house and platform for innovative art. In 1980, the monsun.theater was founded in the premises of a former mustard factory and has since developed into an indispensable institution of the independent scene in Hamburg's cultural landscape. In 2015, Francoise Hüsges took over the management, opening up new perspectives for the theater and making it a sustainably forward-looking venue. Since 2025, the monsun.theater has been located on Billrothstraße.

The Louise-Schroeder-Schule cooperates with numerous cultural organizations and initiatives, galleries, and freelance artists – and since 2025, also with the monsun.theater just two street corners away.Theater has been firmly integrated into the curriculum since first grade. In addition to school performances, many of our classes regularly participate in various theater festivals. The theater day "Louise macht Theater" (Louise Does Theater), shortly before the summer holidays, is still young but already a real highlight of the school year – like a small theater festival, without any competition. On this day, all children are stars! They perform for other children, watch each other, and experience the stage of a real theater. One class (3c) now has the opportunity to perform at another show as part of Theaternacht Hamburg (Hamburg Theater Night).PERFORMANCE BYStudents of the Louise Schröder SchuleDIRECTED BYSilva Tunc

based on a text by Lili RoesingWe all exist in multiple spaces now. In real life and in digital life. Perhaps we've all stumbled upon videos from the wellness culture while scrolling. It's time to focus on ourselves, to "protect our own peace," to manifest our lives, to go to the gym for our own health (not just to look hot, of course). Mindfulness, longevity, self-care, gut health, holistic health, clean eating...Under the branding of self-care, a capitalist lifestyle is promoted, where the primary focus is solely on oneself and retreating into the apolitical, individual. But who are we when we are alone?Fourteen young performers deconstruct body and voice texts, develop their own songs and choreographies, and thereby write their own individual compositions. Language is understood as a living organism that is constantly transforming. The project explores practices of "taking risks" on stage – aesthetically as well as socially. With "fucking beautiful," the newly founded StudiCompagnie of the monsun.theater, under the artistic direction of Dr. phil. Alina Gregor, realizes a performative staging composition based on the theater text by Lili Roesing.PERFORMANCEJosephine Angelique Isabelle Bonin Nina Bryde Didi Fung Lukas Hartl Pia Kehl Paul Lehrich Greta Papenthien Alessandra Strutzke Milena Thompson Jule Weidner Lucie Wittenberg Hanna ZelmanovicsARTISTIC COLLABORATIONPia KehlASSISTANT DIRECTIONDina Polus Charlotte Goralsky Yunseo Sunny ChoiARTISTIC DIRECTIONAlina Gregor

by Benedict Wells“…and I felt the way I had wanted to feel my whole life: exhilarated and awake and in the thick of it and immortal.”Summer 1985. In a sleepy small town, a time that changes everything begins for 15-year-old Sam. Between shimmering movie nights, new friendships, and first great love, he discovers a life that suddenly feels vast and possible. But in the midst of this fragile happiness, a loss breaks through, forcing him to say goodbye and to encounter himself anew.Hard Land tells of belonging and departure, of friendship, grief, and the moments that leave an indelible mark – like a song that resonates long after it's over.A production by frau emma gelb. Funded by the Hamburg Authority for Culture and Media and the rehearsal room funding of the umbrella organization for independent performing arts Hamburg (DfdK). Melissa Anna Schmidt, Tobias WollschlägerTwo people. A closed system. Questions upon questions. Routines, relationships, and a room that slowly falls apart. Walls become permeable boundaries. A door opens, but no one passes through. The Future: Germany is ruled by an authoritarian party that controls life, bodies, and rights. Mathilda secretly ends her pregnancy, beginning an internal rebellion against a system of surveillance, oppression, and fear.Based on the novel of the same name by Nora Burgard-Arp“We would notice if things tipped, wouldn’t we?”Using Mathilda’s story from the novel of the same name by Nora Burgard-Arp, "Wir doch nicht" poses uncomfortable questions to our present: How much control do we accept out of fear? When does conformity become habit? And why does silence sometimes feel easier than resistance? In the end, the gaze turns back to us. How far do we allow it? How long do we believe we are not affected?A performative acting interrogation about political shifts, self-determination, and the late awakening in a society that believes it is not implicated. The monsun.theater's own production is funded by the Hamburg Authority for Culture and Media. Your ears will smile! Wonderful grooves, beautiful melodies, and lively lyrics. When the eight musicians from BITTE LÄCHELN! unpack their instruments and start the songs, you'll hear Reggae, Rock, Pop, Ska, and Blues, and see an absolutely authentic stage show. The multi-award-winning inclusive band has already released three CDs, played live in Siberia, performed with Stefan Gwildis and Guildo Horn, and made it to the front row on ARD Tagesthemen. The fact that the band includes four disabled musicians and four non-disabled musicians is exceptional and gives the project by singer-songwriter, musician, and producer Mirko Frank, the cultural association SMÖRRREBRØD e.V., and LMB Hamburg e.V. a very special touch.
