Urban Sketching
Today, 07:30 - 14:30
Workshops
Urban Sketching was founded in 2007 in Seattle, USA by journalist Gabriel Campanario. It is also considered visual journalism, where artists depict their surroundings with their drawings. This can be the city they live in or places they travel to, following the motto "We show the world one drawing at a time!". In addition to an introduction to Urban Sketching, the course will also provide participants with a brief history of the German Maritime Museum. After a material check and warm-up exercises such as blind drawing and quick sketching, participants can get to work themselves. Shed 50 A and the outdoor area offer a wide variety of subjects. In addition to various large objects such as cranes or containers, other exciting harbor themes can also be realized through drawing. Participants should please bring their own materials. Sketchbooks, pencils, erasers, fineliners, watercolor pencils, watercolors, ink, or pastels are recommended. A seat cushion, clipboards, or drawing board clips could also be advantageous. The number of participants is limited to 10 people. The course is aimed at both beginners and advanced participants and takes place in the covered but unheated exhibition hall and outdoors. Therefore, please wear weather-appropriate clothing and, if necessary, sun protection. The following dates are offered, each from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM: June 14 | August 22 | September 20, 2026. Participation is suitable for teenagers aged 16 and older, as well as adults. Course instructor: Klaus Lingenauber.
