CORRECTIV Exile Talks: Same Label, Different Experience  What does it mean to share the label “exile”, while facing very different opportunities and barriers, both of which largely depend on one's country of origin?  In conversation with Prof. Hanan Badr, expert on social inequalities and exiled communities in Germany, Nazeeha Saeed , an exiled journalist from Bahrain living in Berlin, and Roro S. Getu , a human rights activist from Ethiopia , currently based in Hamburg, we will explore the different layers of realities of exile in Germany. The discussion focuses on the challenges exiled journalists and human rights defenders encounter when navigating the German migration system and getting in contact with German human rights organisations and the media landscape. We want to examine how social inequalities, structural racism, and other discriminatory policies shape access to visas, work permits, employment, cooperation opportunities, institutional support, protection from transnational repression and more broadly said: societal recognition.
