Jen lives in Bangkok – between the reception of an apartment building and the hotel rooms of strangers. What she sells is time, closeness, sometimes just a moment. When a meeting escalates, Wason intervenes – a bartender who has lost more than he shows. For a short while, they drift together through the sultry nights. Then Jen is gone. No trace. No goodbye.Pim, her roommate, begins to search. Wason follows her. Their trail leads through empty alleys, strange rooms, outstanding debts, and elusive memories. To the Cambodian border – or perhaps only back to where Jen had long since disappeared. When Jen disappears – without a word, without a goodbye – her roommate Pim and the quiet bartender Wason follow her trail. A quiet search begins, through nights, memories – and a city that misses no one. FUNERAL CASINO BLUES is an elegy about disappearance, longing – and cities that forget you, even before you leave.

August 28: BECOMING KIM – Film Talk with Director Susanne KimSpecial screening with director Susanne Kim, who will personally introduce the film before the screening. Look forward to exciting insights into the making and background of BECOMING KIM first-hand.The German filmmaker Susanne, married to Jeong Rae Kim, a Korean man, turns the camera with humor and tenderness towards her own intercultural marriage and family. While juggling the roles of wife, mother, and artist, she stages humorous and poetic performances – quiet acts of rebellion that give expression to her feelings and inner world. In a mix of observations and staged moments, the film dives into the chaos of love, identity, and cultural clashes. At once deeply personal and universal, Becoming Kim asks the question: How do we stay true to ourselves – and simultaneously learn to love another person?"Kimchi & Potatoes we had engraved on our wedding rings twelve years ago. And found that quite funny. Why do most stories always stop just when they get interesting? And: Is love enough?" — Susanne Kim

31.08.: FOREVER 16 – Film Talk with Director Brezel Göring & Mini-ConcertSpecial screening with director Brezel Göring, who will personally introduce the film before the start. Afterwards, a mini-concert will also await you. Look forward to a special cinema evening with exciting insights and a musical conclusion.Brezel Göring is an indispensable personality of the Berlin music and art scene. From the early 1990s well into the 2010s, Göring was one half of Stereo Total, the much-loved band he led together with his partner Françoise Cactus. The duo achieved cult status from America to France (Cactus's homeland) – thanks to their enthusiastic DIY attitude and the fruitful interplay of cross-genre experiments. Since Françoise Cactus tragically passed away in 2021, Göring has dedicated himself to the legacy of his partner's distinctive artistic sensibility. She was a passionate writer, and Göring soon stumbled upon one of her unpublished books. Forever 16, which opens in cinemas on August 27, is Göring's cinematic elegy to this rediscovered work. It is a raw, psychedelic fever dream, underscored by the soundtrack of Stereo Total, that leaves you wondering why there aren't more films like it.
