For almost three years, nature filmmaker and ecologist David Cebulla has been observing wild field hamsters. In doing so, he not only tries to learn more about the species but also documents why these field dwellers are globally threatened with extinction. David travels from the western edge of their distribution area in France, through Germany, Poland, Austria, and Hungary, to the eastern edge in the Kazakh steppe. He achieves fantastic, unique footage from around the world. However, during the project, it becomes increasingly difficult to find wild animals.Information: After the film screening, there will be a Q&A session with filmmaker David Cebulla and Dr. Lydia Hönig, Head of the Field Hamster Project at the German Wildlife Foundation. This film is one of 44 selected productions for the European Wildlife Film Awards (EWFA) and is eligible for the Audience Award, which will be presented in 2027.
