As soon as the National Socialists came to power, political opponents were sent to the Fuhlsbüttel penal institutions. In September 1933, the Fuhlsbüttel concentration camp was established there. "Kola-Fu" quickly became synonymous with horror, suffering, and death. From 1936 onwards, the Fuhlsbüttel concentration camp continued to be operated as a police prison. From October 1944 to February 1945, the SS used a section of the building as an external camp of the Neuengamme concentration camp. Bernhard Pohl gives an overview of the persecution of resistance fighters, Jews, Swing youth, forced laborers, and many other persecuted people. No registration required. Event for Open Monument Day.

Several detention buildings of the Fuhlsbüttel correctional facility are to be closed for penal use – including the youth prison built in the 19th century, which served as part of the Fuhlsbüttel concentration camp. For several years, this prison building has been considered for use as an expanded memorial site. What is the current planning status for this? Memorial site director Alyn Šišić will provide a brief insight and is available for further questions. No registration required. An event for Open Monument Day.
