On April 9, 1945, Dietrich Bonhoeffer went to his death with the words, "This is the end – for me, the beginning." Who was this courageous man, pastor, and resistor?
This question will be explored artistically in this concert. Bonhoeffer quotes and memories from his contemporaries will be heard, revealing lesser-known aspects of Bonhoeffer.
The grand musical framework will consist of settings of poems and compositions by Jewish or persecuted poets and composers – such as Heinrich Heine, Fanny Hensel, Gustav Mahler, Paul Hindemith, Ilse Fromm-Michaels, and others.
"Only from the peace between two and three can the great peace that we hope for one day grow," said Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
Singer Marret Winger has been engaged with the German resistance and the Holocaust since her youth. It is her concern to place these courageous people, who gave their lives for their ideals, at the center of her artistic programs. She has already conceived and performed programs about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Sophie Scholl, and Cato Bontjes van Beek. Since 2019, she has been a lecturer at the Hamburg Conservatory.
Henning Lucius is an internationally active pianist and lecturer at the Universities of Music in Lübeck and Rostock, as well as at the Hamburg Conservatory.
