Fishing is practical philosophy. Fishing is contemplation and stress, deceleration and adrenaline, success and failure. Fishing is ups and downs. Fishing is, in one word: life. The angler is the prophet of faith. He looks for a glimmer of hope in every dark body of water. But most of the time, his attempts fail. But he fails gladly. In fishing, failure finds its highest expression. Because: Only those who have failed nine times can once be an overwhelmingly happy person.Paul Schröder and Thomas Niehaus set out for an evening watch at their club’s waters and cast their lines in hope of the big catch. No water is too murky for them not to try fishing in it. No topic is too sensitive for them not to discuss it thoroughly. And alongside fishing tall tales and cold hard facts, alongside Izaak Walton and Peter, remains the eternal question: What are we doing here? Aren’t we all sitting by the flowing waters of life, casting our lines with thoughts of our happiness? And while they sit there, two monuments of patience and hope, and finally the enticing "come-with-me" call of the tawny owl announces the promise of the night and tries to lure poor souls into the darkness of the forest, the two take out their headlamps and calmly and concentratedly prepare the eel rig. Then they start singing a song. Or not. Depending on the weather.
