Meeting point: U-Bahn station Hoheluftbrücke

On this city walk, we hear about former country estates and excursion venues, see the once-popular promenade Hoheluftchaussee, and explore the newly developed area of the former Falkenried wagon factory as well as the Falkenried terraces. Along the way, we also pass by the densely built Generalviertel. In addition, we come across former tobacco factories and cinemas, peek into enchanted courtyards, and see a car hotel in the style of the 1950s. During the city tour, we experience how this densely populated district is still characterized by dynamic change to this day.

25 years ago, the Grindel high-rise buildings and their associated green spaces were placed under monument protection as a complete ensemble. The walk will cover the special history of this residential high-rise complex, the architecture of the individual building blocks, and the skillful design of the grounds, where the bright yellow clinker facades shine between the meadows and trees of the parkland.Furthermore, we will intensively discuss life and living in this green, centrally located, and at the same time car-free residential high-rise complex and discuss its possible significance and exemplary nature for the development of today's inner-city new construction areas.Leader: Helga Magdalena ThienelRegistration is not required.
