Prozna Street (Ulica Prozna)

During this 2-hour walking tour, you will explore the last surviving street of the Warsaw Ghetto, remnants of the ghetto wall, the site of the footbridge, and the bunker at 18 Miła Street. You will learn what the ghetto was, how everyday problems were solved, and why the uprising broke out. You will hear about destruction, helpfulness, indifference, extortion, and resistance. You will also learn about the underground archive of the Warsaw Ghetto and the secret Oneg Shabbat organization, which was dedicated to documenting life in the ghetto. The archive survived the war in metal cases and milk cans and was entered into the UNESCO Memory of the World Register, which includes the most important documents preserved by humanity. You will also learn about the symbolism of the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, the Umschlagplatz, and the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Although the ghetto itself has long since ceased to exist, its history is worth knowing.
