For millions of years, the bee has played a central role in the ecosystem. It is essential for the pollination and reproduction of many plant species, thereby forming the basis of nutrition for both humans and animals. The exhibition in the barn of the Rieck Haus open-air museum, featuring many photographs by Vierlande photographer Hermann Timmann, asks the questions: How does the bee live? Which species are found in our region? And what can we do to preserve their habitat?

On two weekends a year, agricultural businesses in the Vier- und Marschlande region present themselves and promote regional food production. Slow Food and short delivery routes instead of imports from distant continents. The Rieck Haus, a museum that tells the story of over 800 years of agriculture and horticulture in the region, gladly participates in the information weekend and opens its doors with free admission and a herb tour, every Saturday at 2 p.m.

As part of the Querbeet Weekend in Vier- und Marschlanden, there is not only free admission to the Rieck Haus open-air museum, but also a corresponding offer for further expertise in the herb garden.Local historian and herb expert Torkild Hinrichsen invites you at 2 PM for a herb talk in the Rieck Haus garden and will show which edible wild plants grow right on our doorstep, how they can be prepared, and whether they are also useful as medicinal plants.The offer is free and no registration is required.

The Rieck Haus open-air museum opens its doors on Open Monument Day. Local historian Ernst Korth offers continuous guided tours, discussing the history of the farmhouse and the Vier- und Marschlande.At 2 PM, the dialect speaker and local historian invites you to a slide lecture on "Talking Stones". It will cover the historical gravestones found in the Kirchwerder cemetery since the 16th century. What do they signify and what can be learned from them?
