This tour focuses on visiting sites connected with centuries of Jewish presence in Poland. You can see a still-functioning Jewish cemetery; the Nozyk Synagogue, which survived World War II; the remaining section of the ghetto wall; the bridge installation connecting the small and large ghettos; the Umschlagplatz Memorial at the former railway station from which Jews were deported to extermination camps; the Rappaport Monument to the Ghetto Heroes; and POLIN, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews. You will also visit the Jewish Historical Institute in the original building of the former Judaistic Library. In Praga (on the other side of the Vistula), we can see a pre-war mikveh, a former kindergarten and home for Jewish children, and a Jewish student residence. Stroll along the unchanged streets where Polanski’s film “The Pianist” was filmed.
