Museum Rempah Spicy (Spicy's Gewürzmuseum)

A professional actor in a traditional 19th-century merchant costume will take you on an exciting, entertaining, and historical journey through time.With us, you can experience firsthand how a real "Hamburger Pfeffersack" (a wealthy merchant of old Hamburg) acts in his former place of work and how he will introduce it to you in his very special and unforgettable way. From the former spice warehouses, the tour leads along the picturesque canals, past special buildings such as the "Kesselhaus" to the unique, historic "Sandthorquaihof". The Hamburger Pfeffersäcke were a special breed and once steered the fate of our city. Along the way, you will learn many interesting facts about the history and transformation of the Warehouse District. A short detour into HafenCity with a view of the Elbphilharmonie is also planned.Afterwards, we await you in the Spice Museum, where you will get an intensely fragrant impression of what was once stored, traded, and sold in the warehouses. In an entertaining presentation, we will inform you about the origin, cultivation, and processing, as well as the uses of spices and herbs.Spices not only make our food and drinks more aromatic, they can evoke memories, e.g., of childhood, Christmas, travel, family, and security. They enable us to perceive consciously in a sensual way. Having acquired a taste, you will then have the opportunity to taste over 130 different spices/blends. Of course, you can also explore the museum.
