On the eve of the traditional book fair, organist João Vaz opens this year's concert series. The focus of his program is a musical journey to Lisbon. Inspired by Pascal Mercier's novel 'Night Train to Lisbon', he paints an auditory portrait of his hometown with selected works.
>
The concert also opens the annual theme of the XI. Organ Autumn-Winter: the musical connections between Brazil and Germany. As the starting point of Portuguese voyages of discovery, Lisbon was closely linked to the history of Brazil. Diverse cultural and musical connections developed, the traces of which can still be heard today. Thus, the opening concert leads to the origin of those transatlantic relationships that form the common thread of the concert series.
>
João Vaz is considered one of the most important connoisseurs of Portuguese organ music. He is a professor at the Lisbon University of Music and organist at the monastery church of São Vicente de Fora.
>
Music by Georg Phillipp Teemann, François Couperin, Louis Lefébure-Wély, José Blanco de Nebra, José Lidon, Carlos Seixas und Marcos Portugal.
