Sometimes melancholically tender, sometimes with fiery passion for dance - this ambitious ensemble paints its Yiddish music in intense images. The musicians of A Mekhaye have been playing together in various formations for many years. Their repertoire is traditional Klezmer music, instrumental and with vocals, arranged with playful wit, sensitive, and expressive. For years, A Mekhaye has been advocating for understanding between different cultures with their music and is resolutely opposing antisemitism in Germany and elsewhere. Never again is now.

This combination is surprising: Harpist Alberto Sanchez, Johannes Köppen on saxophone, and percussionist Manuel Beutke prove that the mix of Latin, Folk, and Jazz creates a captivating sound. Alberto Sanchez grew up in Paraguay and played the harp from childhood. Now a true virtuoso on his instrument, he moved to Hamburg a few years ago. Here, he lives out his love for music with a passion that can be felt in every note. Johannes Köppen learned piano and studied flute and saxophone. He now looks back on a long career as a saxophonist and is as comfortable in rock and pop as he is in jazz. With his emotional playing, he touches his audience like few others. Manuel Beutke has completed extensive drum studies. His skills range from punk to flamenco. With SAXYARPA, he demonstrates that he can also elicit a wide range of sounds from a cajon and provides the trio with a driving groove.
