We start at the entrance on Marmstorfer Straße (North)/corner of Hohe Straße. This is one of the original areas of the city park, where the first plots were laid out. We begin our tour from one of the highest points. It is not accessible, but leads up and down through the wonderful park with moderate inclines. In the introduction, the history of the public park movement between the World Wars is presented, and the connection to the poor living conditions of the time is established. In the period before and after the First World War, public parks were created in large cities. Fresh air, plants, recreation, sports, and art were the program for improving public health. In Harburg, planning began in 1907 with resolutions from the city council and land acquisitions. Work started around 1913 and was slowed down by the World War and inflation. The inauguration took place in 1926. The planners were Georg Hölscher (1866-1932) and his son Ferdinand Hölscher (1891-1976).We walk into the "Gardens of the Millennia". Our path leads us past the ornamental gardens on Hohe Straße, the gardens for the blind, the apothecary garden, and the gymnastics area with dance lawn. Other important points include the "Zündschnurweg" water playground and the Beethoven Stone, the new open-air stage, and the Hölscher Monument. We return via the popular riverside path to Außenmühlendamm. From there, the HVV bus takes us back to the town hall.At the end of our tour, you will have had more than twenty interesting points in this park explained to you.
