    Prague’s Jewish Community: A Unique Success Story—Until 1938...
    Price from: €140.00
This tour traces the development of Prague’s renowned Jewish community from the Enlightenment at the end of the 18th century, through its rise in industry, the arts and literature, and eventually in the civil service; its major contribution to Bohemia’s development into an industrial power; the emergence of Prague Zionism in response to growing antisemitism towards the end of the 19th century; and its fate from 1938 onwards, following the occupation by Nazi Germany. One of the main themes is also the phenomenon of Prague German literature, a globally unique development in a linguistic enclave that produced internationally renowned writers in the early 20th century, many of whom have since largely been forgotten. The only exceptions include Kafka, Werfel, Kisch and Brod.
