It’s burningHuman chains to protect our livelihoods across Germany• Hamburg is joining in –Meeting point for the human chain in Hamburg:October 3, 2026, 11 a.m., Flag Plaza, Jungfernstieg; human chain around the Binnenalster and minute of silence: 12 p.m.The news is devastating: In Germany alone, 16,300 heat-related deaths are already expected for 2026, fires have threatened towns, and the Rhine reached a historic low. It is the federal government’s duty to protect us and our livelihoods from the climate crisis. We call on it to finally fulfill this duty and take action.At the same time, right-wing extremist forces are threatening our open, democratic society. We believe this cannot continue.That is why we are taking part in the “It’s Burning” campaign in Hamburg, which is forming human chains across Germany on German Unity Day to stand up for the protection of our livelihoods and democracy. On October 3, 2026, at 12 p.m., we want to join hands around the Binnenalster for a minute of silence in remembrance of those who died from the heat. We invite you to meet at 11 a.m. at Flag Plaza on Jungfernstieg.It’s burning. The climate crisis gives us no time. Democracy is facing an acute emergency. It is time to stand up and stand for the future of this democracy and for the future in this politically and literally overheated world. We call on everyone in Hamburg to help close the circle around the Binnenalster and send a strong signal of solidarity and cohesion on this public holiday.
