Ottensen, once heavily characterized by factories, is today home to a variety of cultural institutions. However, Ottensen's cultural life is not solely a relic of the 20th and 21st centuries. Significant personalities lived, worked, and were active here centuries ago. One of them was Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock (1724-1803), whose national-patriotic literature was based on a strong religious foundation, and whose best-known work is "Messiah." Heinrich Heine, born six years before Klopstock's death, held an ambivalent attitude towards his national identity, which he expressed in his most significant work, "Germany. A Winter's Tale."On our leisurely stroll, you will also gain insight into the lives of two prominent female writers and a composer whose family is still known in Ottensen today, but is not typically associated with music. Join us and learn more about the celebrities of past times in Ottensen.
