Our 3-hour tour begins near the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken (piers), from where we continue into the Speicherstadt (warehouse district) and HafenCity. So, directly to the Elbe River. There, we will not only see the completed part of HafenCity but also explore the areas that are currently being finished... Then, we'll proceed into the old Free Port with its old harbor basins, railway tracks, cranes, and sheds. In the Hansahafen, where the Maritime Museum is also located, it's so romantically beautiful that we'll push our bikes a bit along the Bremer Kai, where old museum ships, dredgers, and barges are moored. Here, the Port of Hamburg offers many unusual views with its quays, bridges, and canals. Along old quays, now overgrown with plants, in the romantically charming areas of the old 1950s sheds, we'll discover sleeping beauties and old harbor cranes. We'll also see old lock gates and installations of the port railway. The next stop on our bike tour is the old Reiherstieg quarter, which emerged in connection with the founding of the Hamburg Free Port starting in 1890. On the way there, we'll see the Spreehafen, which was once the central location for the Hamburg barge captains, popularly known as "Schuten-Schubser" (barge pushers). The Reiherstieg quarter, named after an old Elbe side arm, captivates with its stucco-decorated old buildings and the special flair of its multicultural residents. It lies on the largest river island in Europe, which in turn is crisscrossed with romantically charming canals. Afterwards, we'll head back towards the old Free Port, where, shortly before the end of the tour, a small peninsula offers us a wonderful view of the classic harbor promenade with the St. Pauli Landungsbrücken opposite us. Passing through the Old Elbe Tunnel, built in 1911, our bike tour will then lead us back towards the Landungsbrücken.
