Rothenburgsort was a densely populated residential and commercial district before the Second World War. In addition to housing for working-class families, important utility companies and workplaces (water, gas, freight station) were established in the course of the 19th century. On our tour, we will follow the history of the district and explore the consequences of the Nazi dictatorship from 1933 to 1945. We will present memorial sites such as the monument for the victims of euthanasia in the former children's hospital on Marckmannstraße, inaugurated in 2024 and designed by Wolfgang Wiedey. The tour concludes at the Bullenhuser Damm memorial site with the Rose Garden and offers insights into the plans for expanding the memorial site and reorienting the former school building.A tour by Wolfgang Wiedey and Kristina Vagt (Foundation of Hamburg Memorials and Learning Sites)Participation is free. Event as part of elbsommer.Meeting point: Billhorner Deich 2, 20539 Hamburg
