Immerse yourself in the history of the former Kaltehofe Waterworks – among original exhibits and magnificent well models.Learn how Elbe river water was turned into clean drinking water, what function the valve houses served, or what ice saws were used for. A clip from the 1949 film "Water for Millions" shows unique footage from the active period of the Kaltehofe Waterworks.At the end of the tour, there will be an opportunity to explore the exhibition further on your own.Dates: Every Saturday and Sunday, as well as on public holidays, at 11:30 AM and 4:15 PM.Registration: No prior registration is required. Join us on a journey of discovery through the history of the Kaltehofe Waterworks. Disc golf follows the same rules as mini golf, but is even simpler: instead of a club and ball, special frisbee discs are used. The goal is to throw the discs into baskets. A 6-hole disc golf course is available for you at the Wasserkunst. Visitors can try out the sport and playfully demonstrate their accuracy. Disc golf is suitable for both individual players and groups.You are, of course, welcome to bring your own discs.Time: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (during opening hours).Registration: No advance registration is possible. Please come to our info center "Altes Labor" (Kaltehofe-Hauptdeich 6-7) on the event days June 13 / June 14 / July 4 / July 5 / August 29 / August 30. With the decommissioning of the Kalterhofe waterworks in 1990, nature reclaimed the amphibious cultural landscape on the Elbe island of Kaltehofe. This tour introduces the special flora and fauna of Kaltehofe and discusses the eventful process of becoming a nature park and biotope along the nature experience trail.The tour takes place across the ensemble, which is a protected monument and is also an important natural area today. The path leads past wild herb meadows and reed beds, between the former filter basins, and up to the bird-watching platform, where you can look out for waterfowl and coypus.Registration: No prior registration is required. Exhibition and grounds by flashlightThis tour sheds light on the darkness: join us to discover the Wasserkunst and the Elbinsel Kaltehofe at night!The first part of the flashlight tour is themed "Night at the Exhibition"! In the new building, everything revolves around "City.Water.Art" – join us to experience the history of Hamburg's water supply and the Kaltehofe waterworks amidst models of artistic city fountains!Afterwards, we head to the outdoor grounds of the Wasserkunst. In the darkness of the island and surrounded by the lights of the neighboring industry, you will explore the history of the former waterworks with us.The tour covers the impact of major historical events such as the Great Fire of 1842 and the cholera epidemic of 1892 on Hamburg's water supply. Other topics of the tour include the natural environment on and around Kaltehofe, flood protection, and interesting facts about our neighbors. This includes the various companies around the Billwerder Bucht and on the Peute – as well as the environmental scandals of the 1980s.Please ensure you wear weatherproof shoes and clothing and bring mosquito repellent, as part of the tour takes place entirely outdoors.Registration: Please register at least three days before the start of the event at info@wasserkunst-hamburg.de or via the booking form on the event website.Additional dates in 2026: We are offering this tour this year on April 3, May 14, June 13, June 27, August 29, September 12, and October 3.
